Wow - that's pretty speedy 
The upload time is especially impressive. I'm getting around 700kb/s on my ADSL. The slow upload speeds is normally not a problem on ADSL, but I definitely noticed it when I was doing the forum update. Also, with that sort of outgoing speed, the idea of hosting your own webserver becomes very feasible. Hmm...
At the start, I was only half-considering fibre (yes, it'll be FTTC), but having heard the feedback, I'm fairly convinced now. The monthly cost will be the same as presently, although I'll definitely try to haggle, as I've been with them for 15 years now...
When my existing ADSL comes back to normal speed tomorrow, I'll do a bit more research. I've already had a look at the guides on the PlusNet website, so I'm getting a reasonably picture of what is involved. If I go for it, I'll try to schedule the upgrade near to Easter, as I have a couple of weeks off either side...
A difficult question to generalise about, but how "friendly" are the OpenReach engineers? Our master socket is in a bedroom, and ideally I'd like it moved to the cellar. That would be a trivial job - just pulling the cable out through the wall, fitting an external junction box so that a new bit of cable can extend from it, then drop it down by about 3 metres. To get in to the cellar, there is a coal chute, so no holes to be drilled. Once in the cellar, the cable needs to travel another 3 metres. So, he was going to fit a new master socket anyway, so a junction box and 6 metres of cable? I would be happy to do all the "labour" afterwards - the tacking the cable to the walls, and securing the master socket. Or, I could mount a nice wooden panel on the wall (with DPM behind) in advance of the visit. Does anyone think I could I get away with asking him that as a favour? I presume that if I got them out to do that as a separate job, I'd be looking at the best part of £100.
