I remember them well they had a screw in element the size of a torch bulb.
I have done a google search but can find no images .
PS. 2x D cells last a long time in sets that use D series valves, so from a cost point of view and the fact they fit in the original box its the way to go.

if its made by hand it can be repaired by hand
