Yes, I had one of those - until recently. It developed a fault that required extensive dismantling to investigate the cause. (The usual and well-known 're-build of the filters' had been done several years before). But right in the physical centre of the unit is a board which is totally inaccessible for measurements to be taken and component removal. Only by removing the board can those things be done. And that entails the total dismantling of the entire generator - or very nearly so.
The mechanical arrangements for the freq. range switching are ingenious indeed - but an absolute no-no for maintenance purposes.
I persevered & struggled for weeks with this generator - but eventually had to resign myself to the inevitable: B.E.R / unrepairable by design. Salvaged a few bits; balance to skip. A very sad ending: I had owned that item for years; worked very well. But your at £25 was indeed a very good buy: in working order, a TF2002 usually fetches a good deal more than that. But I don't agree that it is "impractical for general purpose use". This generator is a lab.-grade piece of test kit and is intended to be used by highly-skilled technicians and engineers (amongst whom I do not include myself). For the casual hobbyist, it is an over-kill . . . but at £25 . . . .
