Hi Sparky, is your outboard transformer a real iron and copper tranny or is it one of those switching types. You can usually tell from the weight, the switching ones are very light. they don't like feeding another transformer, it would run hot, and also damage the res capacitor. If it was me I,d fit a 230v transformer in place of the original. Using the one you have, try feeding the bridge from just 6v, may be enough or use 12v but cut one of the diodes in the bridge to make it half wave.
