progress at last. found a bad joint on the amp board input pins. Resoldered then tried again with bench supply. no crackling and steady volume. I then plugged into mains using a dim bulb in series. Played for half an hour then switched off. I used a cd phono output from player into mic socket. (bear in mind using the dim bulb) The volume on the amp is loud and it is only turned up no more than a 1/4 inch on the knob. I feel as if i turned it up it would blow speakers. Changing the caps and transistors has made it much louder/responsive. My question now is. If i plug it in to the full mains will it be even louder and do i need to do any other checks Finally i know i have been a bit slow on tackling the instructions given. I know it may well be an easy fix for yourselves. But one stupid mistake by me could have been very costly. thank you richie.
