That is a surprise Col, and I've never come across it either. What are the Numbers? or are you going to make me count?
I was going to follow that comment up by quoting details of my old Drummond that I mentioned before, but decided I'd better check, and the two Tumbler Reverse Gears are different!
Sorry about the crappy pictures, it's relatively dark in there now.
The Mandrel Gear is 30, the TR Gears are 20 and 28 and the Idler is 60.
However, it doesn't actually make any difference, apart from the Mandrel Gear and Idler.
In the first position the Gears are:-
30/28 x 28/60 = 30/60 = 1/2
In the second position it's
30/20 x 20/28 x 28/60 = 30/60 = 1/2 plus the Idler rotates in the opposite direction.
I knew there was a 1:2 ratio in there but I'd never noticed the different Gears before.
The Drummond has two Laedscrews which rotate in opposite directions, but that's another story.
Anyway, back to the Lorch.
