refugee. i have a variable mains power supply. pw reading from missing resistor to - track on the rows of capacitors (is this the common rail) gives a variable reading then goes to 1. same reading before probes are touched. using a digi meter which i found to be easier to use for me. i have an analogue but need new cables digi ones don't fit. am i following the right instructions so far. thank you richie. finally i do not wan't to power up unless i can install a resistor. and i have a solder sucker and know how to use it.
