Hi,
Thanks Gary, yes each to their own and as you know; with experience jobs become easier so what's easy to you regarding electronics will be easy to me regarding mechanical things. It is indeed very oily but most of this is fresh oil which I dosed the lathe with when I first got the lathe home. Gunk is still available but for this I'll most likely use rags soaked in paraffin or a brush with paraffin on the smaller parts; I also give a wash down with meths before painting.
I mentioned the paint colour I intend to use in post #10 but here it is again;

I won't be painting it in RAL 9001 cream/white Gary because of the total loss lubrication system which would soon make white look horrible and be a nightmare to keep clean. I like the look of this green colour on the Lorch shown in the video and hopefully it will look as good on my Lorch? I'm undecided yet whether to go with machinery enamel or spray using cellulose; if I use cellulose I could apply an etching primer and spraying is much quicker than brush painting but I'm pretty sure if I try to spray the weather will turn very nasty preventing use of the compressor and spray gun; I have a nice HVLP spray gun but for small spraying jobs its an overkill so at the next Rufforth I might buy one of the lovely HVLP Bergen small touch up guns; I like spraying paint but I don't like all the preparation involved. If only it was summer all year round?
Kind regards, Col.
