Well I'm a window frame painter as well Colin but now I have to think ahead. As I get older I wont want to climb scaffolding and ladders this being a house; don't want to do it now really but did last year.
So I know you are a younger chap but time marches on ... If you wont go plastic I thought your idea of making new hardwood frames was better than sticking with the softwood. Far easier to do a varnish like Sickens etc when you get some more years down the track. And I reckon you would really enjoy making the frames now you are set up ...
Also you could make the new frames and have them ready as you take the old ones out so less time in the weather ...
Would the softwood frames stand being blasted? Might tear them to bits. Also don't forget modern dbl glazed panels are 22 mm thick so would they accommodate that?
Anyway, have fun at the stripping place
