Yes! hadn't picked up on the obvious that the diameter of the object being turned has to be taken into account. Thanks David.
I never know about speeds to be used so all my tools are run near the low end. The drill press has never had the belt moved off the lowest speed position and jig saws and the like could all be single speed for me as long as its at the slow end. I might just use a few more revs with hand drills of the variable speed type once the hole is started. Perhaps I'm just frightened off by high speed whines ... Think the router is fixed speed as is the crappy scroll saw so no decisions to be made there.
Turned out a saga Colin, but par for the course for you. Seems Refugee's suggestion whilst not being the most elegant maybe the practical solution. Sounds like it.
