Well seeing as I didn't win a DL96 at a reasonable price on fleabay and I don't have a B7G base anyway, I had a dig around and found I had a nuvistor type 7586. Heater volts and current are a bit high so maybe it will have to be a mains jobby.
I also found a that Lafayette made a GDO with a nuvistor see attached pdf. however I don't have a split tuning cap so I think the cct will have to be modified a bit.
