Joe, I've got several of those. The common one has a solenoid that simply flips up a weight to keep the balance wheel/pendulum going for another 5-10 minutes, then the contacts close and the process repeats. The more unusual type has an electric motor to rewind a small spring. There are several diffferent makes using different movements and the same principal. One movement type uses a mechanical tuning fork running at a couple of hundred Hz as a reference.
I find these clocks interesting because although they differ a lot, they can be repaired quite easily. Most of all, the purists hate them so they are very affordable. Long may that continue!!
