I agree with you, Dennis, about 400-day clocks and would add that the main springs are plain dangerous.

I've never come across an ATO but will keep my eyes open.

I've got an early '70s wall clock which is a non-quartz battery movement. Basically it winds itself up every few minutes. Far more interesting than a quartz thing - and it ticks properly!
