You can download the 'Solid Edge 2D' CAD package (not the 3D) free of charge Colin, which I did when the thread was last discussed. I think it was Nick who mentioned it. I have a propensity to download free CAD packages at will, none of which I have the least level of competency in, though they all seem fairly similar in their commands.

The 'Solid Edge 2D' package must be quite complex as the program size is 1.3GB, as compared to E-Machine Shop, which is just 33.34 GB, and given the level of attainment you've reached with EMS and the drawings you've produced Colin, which can be viewed in 3D in EMS, is a remakable bit of free software, with excellent video tutorials online.

My own drawing requirements are limited, and largely confined to such things as basic dials, PCB layouts, front panels and cleaning up dials as best I'm able , using MS Paint & Photoshop 'Elements 7'. I'm presently designing a PCB and layout for a modified version of a 'Suggested Circuit' from July 1969 Radio Constructor magazine for a 'Coil Coverage Test Unit'.

Not having such a unit isn't leaving a gap in my life or keeping me awake at night, it's just that I've always enjoyed building bits of simple test gear and this is just one more example. I won't take this thread too far off topic by going into detials of of the unit, but I may post it in another thread under 'Homebrew'.

I'm sure there are better ways of creating the same layouts in a more presentable fashion, but I just don't have the time to invest in raising my competence in any other CAD packages or PCB software, and it's only for my own amusement and enjoyment.

The long and short of it is that I'm a dabbler with a short attention span and too many diversions. I lead an unstructured active life, spend little time at home, and life is a series of random movements. As a consequence, I dabble in lots of things but don't get deeply involved in anything, so most of my projects have long gestation periods.
