Riveting stuff Colin and nicely described: I was almost there with you at times.
Its great trying things that you havent read have been done before. As you know I was a sceptic that burl would go around a curve. Seen a lot of radios and I have never seen one done like that. The obvious way, and that done by most makers, was to choose a long grain wood veneer and wrap it around that way with the curve. Even that is the part that comes away on old radios, EMI radios often develop bubbles here, but to be fair they have probably been in damp places for decades. I do have one EMI radio that came from a school and had sat in the assembly room all the time from WW2 and the veneer is stuck down as solid as the day it was made, curves and all. Paid a bit more for that one but Boy! it was worth it.
