Elpico Record Player - Is a PCL82 the Correct Valve?

I see that it uses a half-wave rectifier from the sec'y. of the mains xformer, which is tapped to provide the 16v. for the valve heater. I wonder why they chose a PCL 82, when an ECL82 seems more logical - and winding the transformer tap for 6.3v. instead ?
Must be a good reason there somewhere - any suggestions, anyone?
