MAX1771 variants, such as the one sold by Konstantin at http://www.kosbo.com are also good.

Another word of warning - boost SMPSs like these switch at anywhere from about 60kHz upwards - they need to be screened to stop them making radios go bonkers... I can give pointers about that if people want....

Looks like The Mystical East is the place to go. The prices in Blighty are eye-watering.

Farnell's are slightly more sane.

I would never buy something like this from Farnell - there is simply no need... Konstantin is in the UK and the others on eBay etc. are about 15 quid shipped...
