Mark, I just want to say (a)no offense taken (b) I have removed the capitals from my post -will use italics or bold type for emphasis in future
More importantly I take all your points regarding the mains lead and plug, and may well fit a two core one with a molded on plug. All I know is that, if the earth was left connected there was noticeable hum, possibly caused by capacitive coupling between the deck and amplifier chassis(chassises?)as there is definitely no connection between the screen of the audio cable and the deck metalwork. Having worked in the trade for 40 years, albeit 23 of them with an auto-electrical firm, where I only repaired car radios, I hope I'm as safety conscious as any of you. As Steve P. says I would never knowingly leave anything in an unsafe condition.
