well yes there there are two main remote protacols philips rc5 used by a lot of european sets and nec used by the far east.
each modle of set is given a uneque id sub code .
the problem with universal remotes is they tend to use there own 3 or 4 digit set up code.
take for egsample a pye kt 30 i have one universol remote that gives the set up code as 138 an other giant remote from pound land gives the code for the same set as 1026 .the universal remote makers will have there own web site that should give the code you need.
its the makers of the universol remotes who should standerdise there set up codes not the tv makers.
