For want of something better to do this morning I lashed up a basic VFO (6J5 tuned grid) to try out, works very well but obviously there is some warm up drift also tuning the RF pulls the VFO, not to far but far enough to be quite noticable on SSB so I removed the injection coupling capacitor and replaced it with a small value trimmer and adjusted the injection for best mixer gain coupled with minimum pull, to that end it is quite good now up to 18 Mhz. I also put the tunable IF range back to 500Khz as the regen det. works better with it like that, probably because the cathode tap is now at 3 turns rather than 4 turns as was required when using a tunable IF range of 1 Mhz.
