hi the shop in sharpness ran for 32 years we were still repairing 405 line sets my faverates where any kb and the later dual std
phillips were ok infact the only ones i did not like were some we bought for rental that came from the ussr . when we moved into renting coulor we were buying ex vision hire rentals from tritel in chepstow because i had worked on them befor we had a lot of g6
both single and dual std .alot of murphy on the chome stand in bright coulors and the set with the best picture i had seen phillips k70 and the 100degee k88 .we then had a guy join us who swor by decca i got to love them ,not the most relighable but all stock faults.i then whent on a corse to learn the mystryes of the dreded thorn 3000 , so after that we did a lot of thorn i liked the 9k,9k5 ,8k 8k5 and best of all tx10. with the start of vidio we whent for beta the big top loading sanyo .apart from heads neve had one go wrong ,also had philips and grudig v2000 did not like them, later we bought a lot of amstrad tvr2 and tvr3 the latter was a fantastic bit of kit we bought them as returns from a cattolog company amstrad quality control not very good. the start of the doen turn for me was the introductin of smds and micro prossesor control .buy 1996 things wher getting cheap to buy and spares expensive ,thank you partsmaster or mastercare who wanted to charge £48 for a carrage for a video that cost £74 .so we end up selling the tv rental to another firm and cotiued mainly with white goods and repairs to things that no one ele would look at ps the people who bought are rentals whent bust last year ,so different from when i started in 1968 for electecnecs in stroud when we were turnig work away, mind even then it was more profitable to repair fair grownd pa we had a contract with rodgers fair
in1972 i worked for ron palfry start of the coulor revolution working up to 16 hours a day . sorry if this is a bit of a rambel
i dont think ther will ever be the chance for people to lrarn the skills we have again can you imagin asking a moden day tec if he has a spare moment could you fit an element in a russel hobs kettal? my brain is full of 42 years of changing tec and wont take any more in cheers rob
