From my experience with this delightful little set, (see post 5) low HT is almost certainly down to the smoothing caps. They're in a small can so can't be replaced by 'stuffing' but there's room beneath the chassis. No doubt that the culprit is often assumed to be metal rectifier, which was my first thought, but replacing it temporarily with a 1N4007 made no difference, which led me to the smoothing caps. Replacement brought the HT up to spec.
