I'd quite like to have one, but I'm not tempted to pay the going rate so I don't expect I ever shall unless demand for them cools rapidly or our little flea market obliges one week. Technological firsts appeal to me, but I'm harbouring five of the next ten UK transistor models so can't complain
: a while back I used "Radio! Radio!" (3rd edition) to compile a timeline of those released by the end of 1957.
Mar. 1956 - Pam 710.
Jan. 1957 - Pye P123BQ
Apr. 1957 - Pam 720
May 1957 - Cossor 546
June 1957 - HMV 1410 / Marconi P60B (valve/transistor hybrids)
Perdio PR1
Aug. 1957 - GEC BC1650
Sept. 1957 - Cossor 561 (Traveller's Friend)
Nov. 1957 - KB OP21 Rhapsody
Dec. 1957 - Ace TR257 Courier
1957 unspecified - Vidor CN440 (Gem).
Some of the 1957 models are even more scarce than the Pam 710, though not nearly so rare, by the definitions an antiquarian bookseller once explained to me: an item is scarce when they are few examples around, but only becomes rare when there are collectors who covet it.
