Stiff petroleum jelly, or if very loose, cut up skinny drive belt or O-ring elastomer.
You can stiffen petroleum jelly (Vaseline is coloured & perfumed version) by warming and dissolving some paraffin candle wax in it.
Sorry I meant to mention that even in 1970s the aerial isolators going bad!
