Recording video in the 1950s

I can remember the PXL2000 being demonstrated on Tomorrow's World in the late 1980s, but seemed to be only good for a toy or a niche tool for amateur film makers.

It was a toy and intended as a toy. No need for niche "film" maker to use it now as there are plenty of cheap activity cameras and phones. Then when editing make it look like a PXL2000.

I heard the PXL2000 was popular for making dream sequences, back when analogue camcorders were the cheapest method for most amateur film makers.

I presume some video editing software have a suitable filter to produce a similar look.
