Much more crazy than Akai 1/4" reel to reel colour video (which was helical).
The Philips Digital Compact Cassette used a clever head instead of helical used for DAT. A demagnetiser might destroy the head.
My 8mm Digital tape still goes :D, but looks rubbish compared to my Canon EOS70D, bought purely for stills.
