Thought-provoking post from Jez there!
It may end up as hitting the much-less-well-off, but they're saving money running old cars anyway. It's not the poor that are being targeted, it's the significant number of polluting vehicles. Historic vehicles (which really are a small number) are indeed exempt.
A few light-hearted chuckles are fine, it's when it becomes vitriolic that it's upsetting, and then people try to defend themselves, and others on their behalf. And then things escalate...
Some rules are indeed stupid, but I'd suggest very few... there'll be a much larger amount of rules which at first glance appear stupid, but actually arose out of unforeseen consequences which nobody wants repeated.
Quite possibly! It happens in all walks of life... I've recently heard about (mentioning no names
), someone who bought the fastest motorbike at its time, rarely has a journey without exceeding 100mph, and hopes never to have to answer for it!
Other Forums on the same general subject are precisely that: other forums on the same general subject. This is Golborne Vintage Radio after all, not Golborne Forum Wars! But if you find one for Forum bashers Jez, I hope you'll share it!
I think Mark's responses have been good, measured, reasoned, and informative! But it's a huge time suck... in larger Forums the mods and owners simply haven't got time so they nip controversial threads in the bud!
Well, this Forum has young people too, one has been fairly quiet since he found himself a girlfriend and set up home with her... and another who was highly valued but had to withdraw a couple of years ago to concentrate on her GCSE's.

No doubt with such a small percentage of cars not complying, and most of them only 1000 or 1100cc as the owners can't afford anything else, they make bugger all difference to pollution anyway.
