Certainly some modern vehicles emit so much noise that 2 meter amateur radio is out of the question as soon as the ignition is turned on. A good roof antenna helps as does a branded radio with decent band pass filtering. Most cars have amplified aerials and filters to remove a lot of noise.
Sitting my Sony TV-990UB on the passenger seat shows so many patterns as soon the engine starts.
