Digital clock

Unsure as to whether this is classifiable under Vintage or Modern Technology: one digital clock. So I've put this post here.

I attended a general auction last weekend and this digital clock caught my eye. It's a 24-hour format display, runs from 230-v.a.c. mains (via a 'wall-wart'), has an alarm function and a CR2032 back-up battery. And yes, I have now checked its time-keeping accuracy: it's fine.

But the bit that really caught my eye was its sheer size
And the cost? All of £5, including buyer's premium. Yo!

Correct Lawrence: that's an RA-17W. Just above it is a Yaesu-Musen FR50B: that receiver is featured in the Gallery. There are also various bits of test gear in that photo. Do you recognise anything in particular?

Above the bench, on the middle shelf, the items with CRTs, left to right, are: Tektronix 2465 300 MHz 'scope, HP 1715A 200 MHz 'scope and just visible on the right is an Advantest TR1432 spectrum analyzer.

I didn't spot the HP sig gen Al, I'm not well up on HP stuff, I spy another Marconi instrument, valve voltmeter? TF1041?

Nice clock. Good find - that'd look good in anyone's shack.

There's several of these on eBay, but at several times what you paid!

Two things on that workbench I'm completely with you on - the Tek 2465/A/B are simply (IMHO) the best analogue scopes ever made, and the Metcal irons are wonderful (I use MX-500Ps modified for 240V working) - can't see the model of control unit you have there, but if it is a MX-500 then I have the schematics for it - they are quite easy to fix when they have problems...

The HP sig. gen.: middle shelf, LHS: behind the hood of the Anglepoise lamp. It's a 8640B. And, IMHO, it's a far better sig. gen. than anything that Marconi ever made. Just a shame about the material that was used for the gears within it: they tend to disintegrate. But that is a problem that is usually fixable.
And talking of Marconi, yes, that is a TF1041: substantially modified out of necessity, of course! Behind it is a TF893 A.F. power output meter. "Behind it": yes, I really need a bigger workshop-cum-radio shack! It's just so easy to introduce yet another item into that domain than it is to turf something out. The "Wait a minute: that might just come in useful one day!" is an attitude that is very hard to suppress. Only recently I was making something and used a small item that I have been carrying around with me for over 50 years!

Metcal irons . . . . can't see the model of control unit you have there . . .

On the back, it states STSS-PS2V-02.
Yes, they are very good irons - just a pity that the elements are so expensive.
