Latest Aquisition. Cossor 439

I have just picked up a Cossor 439 battery set from 1937/8, came with a home built eliminator.

I am told it makes a noise but receives nothing. Not tried it yet but here are some pictures, not taken by me but the last owner.

The chassis and internals are spotless, with only minor marks to the cabinet.

Ok I succumbed!

get stations on MW and R4 LW, Sw is dead, so some work on the wave change switch and possibly some caps.

At least the eliminator works!

Seriously though, it looks a nice set, be interesting to find out how that eliminator is constructed.

Mark - when you say "S/W is dead", what were you using for an aerial? The two old Pyes that I'm working on here are very deaf on S/W - until I hook them up the 30 ft. outdoor wire - then there are many stations, albeit mainly towards the LF end (6 - 10 MHz). Needless to say, it's RCI that puts in the strongest signals!

If it really is 'dead' on S/W, the first place I'd look at is the local osc. to see if it really is osc'ing.

A very attractive set in remarkably good condition Mark, with its original knobs and the speaker fabric looks excellent. The dial looks especially nice!

Speaker looks quite large too, so should give good reproduction.
