Kenwood DMX7017DABS car monitor/radio etc

Hi All,
I've not been well and have been working hard which is why I've not been on the forum for a while.

Can anyone help/assist here with this - my daughter has this fitted (from Halfords) to her Fiat 500 several years ago (it was a Christmas present). She then sold the car, this was removed from it and has sat in a box in workshop for quite a while. I thought that the best thing to do was to sell it on BUT I thought it wise to show a picture of it powered up. However, I'm trying to figure the best way of doing this with damaging it OR should I just leave it alone and try to sell it on as is?
Have a look at the picture attached which i'm sure is the power supply connections.

I take it that's it's a fancy head unit (car stereo with screen etc)?
What make is it? How old is it? How long has it been sitting and is it in good nick?
I'd not bother testing it, sell it as is but un-tested, in car equipment and amateur radio gear often gets cannibalised and the buyer wants his money back as they say it's duff so don't say it's in working order, I've been bitten before with these scams. Unless it's a top make and has all the bells and whistles it'll either not sell or make very little. Aftermarket ICE is not popular these days.

Its a Kenwood DMX7017DABS touch screen about 4 or 5 years old. If i recall it was around £500 plus fitting costs.

Looks like a top of the range model.
I'd probably put it on eBay for a quarter of the new price as the starting price.
If you over price it you might not get any bids. You also could put a buy it now at whatever you would be happy with.
Funny there was no title yesterday when I looked but there is today, the internet was running at 1 mph yesterday so no doubt that was the issue, hence the questions I asked. Sorry to have been a nuisance and ask again.

AFAIK car audio needs three basic connections - ground & positive Vcc and to turn on a remote connection. I think the remote is either grounded or +12v, see here - https://www.instructables.com/Basics-of-...ubwoofers/ B Remote wire..... To make sure before applying +12v to the remote wire just buzz the remote wire out with your DMM on diode/continuity check the other probe to ground connection.

Hi.
It's unlikely the steering wheel will have anything to do with powering it up. The steering wheel controls have resistors that are carefully selected to give a predetermined voltage change in a potential divider circuit from a very accurate supply voltage. You have switched and unswitched vcc inputs these can be joined together and fed from positive 12v and the case used as ground (negative) there is NO need to connect speakers unless you wish to check the audio output, a load is not needed.
There is also no need to have remote connected either as you need to know the required resistor values or do a scan which is is explained in the instruction book.
I've recently upgraded my Hyundai i10 ICE from the existing unit to one from a later model that has Bluetooth and DAB, although the unit looks virtually the same to get the steering wheel controls to work is difficult as the car needs a different clock spring, fitting the microphone too was a job as the head lining had to be lowered, it's been worth it though, have now hands free phone and music from the smartphone as well as USB which the basic head unit has anyway. I did high end ICE in Sony and Clydesdale too and did ICE installs at the weekends for a few years, sadly dried up these days as most cars have decent systems these days.

I've tried powering it up with 12v with no response so I'm wondering have I blown it (oh no!) or is there not enough current supply to start it up. Perhaps its had its day.

Hi Rob.
It should power up if you have the ACC and power leads connected together to 12v + and the case as earth.
500ma would be plenty unless you are feeding speakers.

Am I correct from the image in post #1 that this will be the red/yellow leads together and the black as ground as per indicated? This will be of course 12v DC and 500ma connection.

Hi Rob.
Yes just join the red and yellow leads together, the black is ground which is the same as the metalwork on the radio. When I said 500ma I wasn't making reference to the radio but just saying a PSU source of 500ma will be sufficient for a test less speakers, Iff it does power up then use a decent supply and wire up some speakers (4ohm of higher) and test, if there is no output it's pretty worthless and only good for spares.
There are few on ebay BUT they don't sell because they are over priced, one is just over £100 but has no output, really should be £25, there is as much chance of getting the output chip as winning the lottery.
Hope yours works but don't ask a fortune then you'll have more chance of a sale.
