Avo DA116 repair

Morning all.

I've got a DA116 which has been smashed up in the post on the way to me.

So far as I can tell, only the back has been smashed to bits, the business end of the meter appears to be all in once peice.

So, I'm wondering how successful I could be trying to glue it all back together some how?

I have been thinking, thin wire meshing with maybe some fibre glassing, or araldite?

It cost a fortune I think to get the back pieced together by a professional plastic welder, although that'd yeild the best results.

Fibre glass and resin could well work, just be careful that the increased thickness doesn't foul anything when its all reassembled.

At least the battery compartment looks reasonably intact which is a blessing, given the outward pressure exerted by the battery contact springs.

Would I be right in assuming that it is a hard plastic, thus ruling out the use of solvent adhesives?

Rather than your metal mesh/fibreglass idea, would a sheet of plastic across the joins, secured with a suitable adhesive be better? (I'm assuming, from your picture, that most of the damage is on flat parts of the housing.)

I wonder if a piece of self adhesive tape on the outside would help to get the pieces perfectly aligned while you patch the inside?

As long as you have all the broken pieces, Superglue will do it.

Yes superglue will do it but I'd still try and reinforce the inside of the back cover. Ive found that the effectiveness of super glue does fade over time, even reinforcing with epoxy helps.

You obviously missed this in my previous post:

Solvent adhesives won't work on the wrong materials as they don't dissolve! What sort of plastic is it?
