Picasso designed a set for Philips? Not quite cubist and the colours are too plain but that was my immediate reaction.

That suggests that it is a receiver with a built-in transmitter that the normal RX is tuned to so that it relays the station that the box is tuned to! If that's the case, it's something rather special!
