Zenith variac

I have recently purchased a zenith variac model 100L and was wondering if any manual is avaloabl for this and if the brushes are available for this model

There is nothing in the way of manuals for Variacs. They are just a big mains rated variable transformer.
You just need to know the rating so that you can fit the correct fuses or circuit breakers.

As far as brushes go you would do better looking for a unicorn feather.
It took me several gos to get a brush right on an NOS Indian manufactured one back in 2012.
It had been dropped and the brush was broken.
You will need to measure up the old one and get the closest size you can but make sure it is slightly bigger as you then have to file it to fit. I had to shape it to fit in the little clamp and bent the braid over to give the clamp a better grip and electrical contact.
I bought the brushes by size and not by manufacturer in a bag of 10 for a couple of quid.

The brushes seem to be ok but I am having problems wiring it up as I have never wired one up before

It comes up on my PC when I click the link Alan, having said that I also have the image in another window on my PC from the original listing (worthpoint)

Google> zenith 100l variac

On the returns look for the "worthpoint" listing, once on there the image can be opened in a new window for better resolution.

Mine has a 10% boost tapping and no 110V tapping.
The wiring should be easy as they are like a pot with a value of about 2 ohms if measured with a DC meter.

You should be able to see the terminal connections to the variac winding by looking behind the terminal panel.

Looking from the front, the start of the winding would normally be to the left, that's normally the neutral input connection, the end of the winding would normally be to the right, that's normally the live (phase) input connection.
The wiper/brush connection (live/phase output) will be obvious.
Ignore the 115v terminal unless you intend to make use of it.
Neutral in and neutral out should share the same connection.
Make sure the frame of the unit is earthed.
