I'm feeling a bit dim. I've just noticed that the VMARS Diagram has the Plug Connections at Top Left.

I notice on the schematic I'm looking at that there might be some confusion between the notation on the 9 pin socket as wired in the schematic and the notation shown on the circular representation of the 9 pin plug, that is to say if you look at it in a logical sense D1 & D2 are reversed as is G & S.

So they are, although that does presuppose that the main Diagram sequence is meant to match the sequence on the Plug.
I'll have to Buzz mine and see what's what. Alan

I tried to compare the real world wiring of my Hickok based 1-177B valve tester with that of the schematic once, not that the tester was faulty or anything, it was one of those just for the hell of it exercises, needless to say I gave up after about five minutes..

Firstly thanks, I'm glad I'm on the same wavelength as you guys but I have to say the wiring to mine looks very poor by comparision to photos posted
Is it safe to assume that I can use 24/0.2 hook up cable? I've tried unsoldering the existing cable from the 9 pin connector with little success...suggest that the Weller solder gun might be needed? Thanks Rob

Yours looks older than mine, and all that Black Wiring is very unhelpful.
However, it should be all very logical. If you remove that Spacer in your Picture so that you can get at the Roller Connections note that mine has a tiny extra Spacer, a sort of thick Washer with a flat side, under it. I would think that wire would be fine, although you could use something a bit thicker for the Heaters. Alan

Hi Alan,
I assume that you are referring to the brass spacer which I shall remove and re-photo. I've got some 9amp caravan multistrand cable that I can use (7 cables) so the heaters shouldn't be a problem. I did think of rewiring the whole thing but I can see potential problems (i'll lose track for what is connected to where) so I think I shall leave the valve bases alone for the time being. Best Regards Rob

The silicon rubber covered wire sold at BVWS swaps takes a lot of beating for ease of use, flexibility and able to be touched with the soldering iron with no damage.
The thinner of the two is 2mm and the thicker 2.5 mm diameter. I have just discovered that they have the same number of strands and tightly twisted the copper is about 1mm diameter. So the thicker must just have a higher voltage rating. I buy the thick from Farnell and that is rated at 3A. I would think the thinner variety would be fine for everything. Gary

Was there a little Doofa under it?
The Wires look good enough to Buzz through from the Plug. Alan |
