I occasionally get let off the leash by SWIBO and pop over to the auctions with Dennis and I'm just amazed at what gets *chucked* because people do not see a value in it. OK, furniature goes quick and if you are kitting out a student digs then this is a cheap way of doing so, but electricals are another matter. That Echo set that Dennis picked up for a song was a case in point, bought by a collector who, please note, appreciated old 405 televisions. I like old radios for one major reason, I'm a relative newbie to the valve set having been let loose on the planet in 1968 and I was not allowed by my father to quote "bugger around with high voltages". I now have the time and the knowledge to do all the things that I was not allowed to do when I was younger. SWMBO does understand and she is pleased that I have moved up into collecting small micro computers because as she says, I've finally gotten into the 80s and at this rate by the time I pop my clogs I should be up to date with the world.
One item to note on collecting micros, the silly prices commanded by certain vintage computers on ebay due to their rarity. Look at any sale for a ZX80 or a Jupiter Ace and you will see sales into the £100s. My blood is rich, but not that rich.
