Hi Jack
As Jeffrey has said you will need to down load the Lattice Diamond Programmer. You will need to register but it is free.
I too found the tools not as easy to use as the Altera ones.

You will also need a programmer. This is an example of one.

From dim memory I used my Xilinx USB to JTAG programming daptor.

Unlike earlier Hedghog's in this one the flash memory is programmed directly by SPI.
When you receive the programmer it will come with fly leads and they must be connect in the following way

Code:

SCK / TCK     TO    SPI_SLK
SI / TDI      TO    SPI_SD0
SO / TD0      TO    SPI_SDI
SS / ISPEN    TO    SPI_SS
TRST          TO    CRESET
GND           TO    GND
VCC           TO    3V3

The programming tool can be hard to navigate I hope the following description will help a bit.

Open the Dimond Programmer
For Device Family select iCE40
For Device select iCE40HX1K

Double click on Operation
In the window that opens
For Access mode select SPI Flash Programming
For Operation select SPI Flask Erase, Program, Verify
Select your programming file

In the SPI Options section
For Family select SPI Serial Flash
For Vendor select Micron
For device select N25Q032
For Package select 16-pin SOIC
Press OK at bottom of window

When ready to programme press the green coloured icon at top of main window (2nd icon from right)

When the Hedghog L starts up the PIC takes control of one of the SPI pins for a short time.
So allow about 2 seconds after powering up before starting to programme the flash memory.

Hello FranK.
I have built a 625 => 819 lines converter.
It is based on 2 PIC16F268 microcontrollers, a pair of AL422 memories, A/D and D/A converters.
the firts microcontroller is used to fill the memory with video signal.
The second one is used to read at different speed the video signal, the two memories allow to be able to read sometimes twice the same lines, to create e delay of 1 line between memories, and allow to create additional lines by mixing two adjacent lines. The second microcontroller also create the timing signals, sync, ...
I used an EPROM for mixing the 8 bits data from the two memories and create intermediate lines (half sum of values). This is the best solutions i found and i was able to use.
th first PIC is using a xtal clock, the second one use a PLL clock, syncronised by 50hz vertical syènc signals, but it does not seems very stable for my opinion.
I would like to switch to FPGA, but i have no experience for that.

Using a video decoder instead of the first microcontroller and the A/D converter would simplify things.

I used a TVP5146M2 video decoder. All that was needed with it was small amount of logic to be able to write the lines to the AL422.
I am guessing that you are using a PLL synchronised to the vertical sync as the AL422's aren't large enough to hold a full frame of 625.

FPGA's are a steep learning curve. But doable and worth it. You just need to put in the time.

I have used both Altera (now Intel) and Lattice .
My advise would be to stay away from Lattice. There tools that I have used feels like they have been cobbled together and I found them difficult to use. If I hadn't learnt first on the Altera tools I think I wouldn't have succeeded with them.
On the other hand the Altera tools I found were easy to use. All the buttons did what they said and worked as you would expect.
