Indeed the advantage of the additional grid leak resistor is if the pots track goes open circuit. A high value of resistor of say 3.3 meg is quite sufficient, remember of course that the input resistance here is very high.
I believe the grid leak on the 3-3 is 10 meg, put me right if wrong as I'm working from memory.
