Picked up this instrument from Mickey405's recent event.
Seems I've got lucky with this one. After being connected up to an 18volt power source it didn't take much effort to get it going.
A squirt of RS Components switch cleaner on the two-gang frequency fine adjustment potentiometers was all that was needed to achieve the results as shown on the attachments.
Instrument set to 10Khz. Output .-20db.
Oscilloscope set to 20microseconds per division.

What a great find, one of those instruments that does exactly what is says "on the tin". No menus or multifunction buttons etc. just twiddle and go.

It was a pleasant surprise to find this instrument required little attention to get it working. Makes a change from the other projects I'm trying to restore or repair.
The original power source for this instrument was two PP9s. Should get away with two high performance PP3s?

PP3s will be fine, PP9s were used for longevity rather than power. My Hacker takes 10-20mA, PP3s would take that in their stride the two PP9s last for months though.

The pppenguin's suggestion is good.

I use sets of 6 x Alkaline AA cells in both printed home made PP9 boxes and some recycled dead PP9s with innards removed.

Much cheaper than PP3 per hour use. The connectors are cheap, though the prewired ones of course have the red & black the wrong way round for a battery pack.

Current consumption is 14mA on sine waves and 20mA on square waves.

For the time being I'm using two alkaline PP3 batteries. A holder for the PP3 is available from RS components under the part number: 489-611.

The capacity of a Eveready silver PP9 is 4.5Ah. They cost £3.89 each from my local hardware shop. Cheap alkaline PP3s cost £1.50 individually from the same shop and have a capacity of 0.4Ah. I know which are the better value! It is then just economical to stuff the exhausted PP9s with AA cells at £8 for a box of 40 and a capacity of 2.6Ah; (£1.20 for six).

Considering you won't be using it every day or for hours 2x PP3 would seem a reasonable idea.
PP9s would last longer but in fact may be well past their useful life due to lack of use!

How many times will you use it in a year, considering your not doing customers repairs?
