Philips 535A to restore

Hi all,

Its been a good while since I took on a project and I was just awash with restored sets and hopeless cases (now sold on after a massive clear out). So I just came across this Philips set at a local auction house and decided to leave a cheeky small bid and was surprised to find I was successful.
Its now up on the bench and I find it is totally un touched, possibly since new?
Very scant information on this model anywhere but have managed to find a very basic circuit diagram with most component values marked up.
I am in no big rush to get this one done & will probably enjoy many weeks on & off it.
Pulling the rectifier & measuring the socket indicates that the transformer seems OK & the rectifier tests out on the valve tester so should be nothing catastrophic showing up later.

This set should be an excellent performer, has RF stage.
The Radiomuseum shows the continental version of the 535A, the valves have the ct8 side contact base. The UK made sets use equivalent types fitted with the B7 base.

I am about to power it up slowly on the variac minus the rectifier valve & take some measurements. I normally dive right in and start changing capacitors all over the shop but this set looks so un touched. Still had delivery note tied to the back!
If your mains dips in the North east in the next half hour its only me twiddling my variac.

Hi all,
Update; was connecting up to my variac and removed rectifier which is indeed a British 4 pin standard jobby & I got my eye on the output bottle which is shown as a pentode on the drawing I have. However on pulling it out it is a 4 pin British base triode ACO44 The audiphools PX4 .
I have bunged it on the avo valve tester and it shows 95% emission so that valve on its own is worth many times what I paid for the radio. I shall not be splitting it from the set though as I am not a supporter of such vandalism.
Back to the variac. All AC voltages from the transformer check out ok and the unusual dial lamp which also illuminates the tuning meter is still working.
That's me finished for the day. Off for my tea and leave the rest for another day.
