Roberts R606 Tuning reversed ?

Hello,

Just acquired a reasonable Roberts R606 Radio. After few tweaks I was rewarded with a great sounding radio. However, i
quickly noticed the tuning was "back to front" with Radio 2 coming in at around 100 mHz whilst Classic FM could be found
at 87mHz and "off the left of the scale".

My initial guess is the tuning cord was replaced at some time but not quiet correctly ?

Yes, most likely strung with the dial cord going in the wrong direction around the shaft.

Unfortunately the Trader Sheet for the 606 doesn't have a dial cord diagram, but the 600 does, and there may be some similarities.

For what it's worth, I've clipped the dial cord diagram for the 600, which I've attached below.

Normally, when you turn a tuning knob clockwise on any radio the pointer moves to the right, and anticlockwise, to the left.

I'm not into Roberts, but there are other forum members who are, and might be able to help further.

Hi,
Seems a bit "back to front "too, Radio 4 on Long Wave is at 1400 metres rather than 1500.(mid scale so not quiet as noticeable).
There are plenty of overseas medium wave broadcasts at an indicated 500 metres plus. Absolute Radio is at 250 metres on
the workshop radio and 475 on the R606 .

As David says, the drive cord is reversed - check carefully against David's diagram .

Anchor the rear turn in the drum, making sure it is the cord that comes down  from the upper pulley then wind the cord clockwise round the spindle, working towards you.

Finally, loop the cord around the remaining pulleys and try again.

Thankyou for all your comments. When you turn the tuning knob clockwise, the scale moves from right to left !

That seems to confirm that the drive is tuning in reverse.

The diagram might not necessarily be identical to yours, as it's from the 600, but I'm sure it will be along similar lines, and someone will have wound the cord in the opposite direction to that required.
