Rob I was thinking after you left today.
regarding the crumbly wire insulation on the VHF sets you are looking at.
Instead of replacing the caps and wiring in a blanket change, change the wiring first, then "that cap", then work through the caps and resistors.

You know it makes sense! Remember Cotterd and be methodical!

There usually isn't anything wrong with the old WIRE; it's the sleeving that's shot. The easiest way to fix it is disconnect one end, pull or cut the old sleeving off and then slide some new on. This isn't a bodge; it's how they were made in the first place.

I've got some suitable sleeving on order which I'll be offering for sale when it arrives.
