A modification to an AR88D

As yours is without a case, how about using the bolt attachments on the side plates for something less permanent? Two handles on the front panel a la RA17 and then a handle each side, placed rather more towards the rear than the middle, for any vertical lifts.

I don't have a problem lifting one of these but only after I've a firm purchase on the underside! Awkward Radio to lift with an 88% chance of personal injury!

Thank you, Lawrence, for that offer. At present, initial ideas for a cabinet are based on using black ash chipboard. Of course, if I had sheet steel (or even aluminium) cutting and bending equipment, then that is the route I would choose; however, I haven't, therefore . . . .
Of course, a case only may pop up on e-bay one day; there is no rush for this project.

Thank you Andrew - an idea worth contemplating. And as for hauling one around the bench (when necessary), your method is the same as mine. As for the 'appearance only' factor, (and this is the main - but not the only - reason behind my idea), it is simply because in my shack it will then readily 'blend in' with the other vintage comms. radios that are next to it (Racal RA-17, Eddystone radios, etc. ~ all with vertical chrome handles) and that the aforesaid handles are simply available from my 'junk box' . . . and are looking for a good use.
