Well they told me this radio stuff could get compulsive. I looked everywhere for replacement rubber mounts for the tuning cap but no luck. I thought I'd have a go at making some DIY ones. I used a regular eraser and did some drilling and filing. I won't say it looks elegant but it seems to work fine and the tuning cap is no longer rubbing on the back of the dial reflection plate - and it cost almost nothing. If you guys have more elegant suggestions for replacing these I'd be glad to learn.
The chipped paint on the slightly rusted transformer cover was getting to me so I sanded it off and repainted - primer, top coat an clear coat. Whatever about the DIY rubber mounts, the transformer cover looks nice after its makeover! I just know I'll have a look at painting the chassis - no idea how I'll do that without major dismantling.
