Speaker repair

Attached is a picture of the speaker from the Ever Ready 5318 I am working on.

However, the speaker appears seized (come is fine), what is the best way to free them off and recentralize the magnet?

Hi Mark,

If the magnet retaining screws have seized, I would leave some WD40 around the screw heads overnight. If this doesn't work you may have to apply heat to the screw heads to loosen them.

Not that bit that worries me Roger, it is when I actually get inside the magnet housing.

Usually all that is necessary, is to slacken the screws slightly and gently shift the top cover to centralise the magnet, without removing the cover.

what if the gubbins is seized inside where the cone meets the spider?

Then you might then require a new speaker. Usually moving the magnet slightly is all that is required.

does the speaker have a dust cap? if not can you see that its off centre.
some times the varnish on the inside of the coil former deformes jamming the former against the pole
or you get rust on the pole. all of the above can be fixed by removing the magnet.
