A friend has sent me this photo taken by Harry Jacobs. HJ was a Jewish East End guy who became the more-or-less official photographer to the Windrush generation. An article about him here:

This photo was found by my frend's brother during a house clearance. The story is that HJ had a nice shiny TV that he used to use as a prop in some of his sessions. Presumably so that the subject could show that they were doing well enough to afford a TV.
The TV looks rather like an Ekco but lots of mid 1950s TVs looked like that.
