Ferguson 3047 - 70's 'Stereo' Record Player.

My Uncle brought this gem round, well the Ultra 8047 exactly, but it's the same apart from the colour.

The turntable is stuck solid! I mean really stuck. After removing the spindle and C-Clip, it won't move in any direction. I haven't powered it yet because I can actually pick up the whole unit with the turntable! I don't want to burn out the motor.

I've tried a Hair Dryer. I've tried 3 in 1 oil. I've even tried a poke underneath.

It's a common 70's BSR deck.

Any ideas. I've never had this before!

is it an auto changer or single play?
if auto changer then yes plusgas the linner of the tuntable grows a white kind of fungus
i have never had one sized compleatly

I've used switch cleaner/lubricant or IPA (not the beer!) to free solidified grease. I suspect that 3-in-1 will be too thick at this stage, but it's probably OK to lubricate it later on...

Not related to Steves turntable problem but I have used Plus Gas to free jammed screws/pot shafts etc. The last job I did with it was to free up a dial lock mechanism on a Halli. SX28, I had to remove the lever from the main body of the mech., which the lever screws into, the lever was approx 2 to 3 mm diam. and approx 15 mm long one end being threaded (the end stuck in the mech.) the main body was secured in a vice and I snapped some mole grips over the thin shaft, it was clear when I tried to unscrew it that it was at its tortional limit, it took about two days soaking and a bit of gentle heat to break the corrosion seal but it came out ok in the end.

I had an R200 with a volume pot which was stuck solid. This freed up very quickly with Servisol.

I'm not familiar with these turntables but, if there's no plastic near, how about a hot soldering iron on the bearing? A blast of freezer spray on the spindle may have a similar effect.
