B & K 467 CRT Tester

Just Acquired this tester - fitted new mains lead as old one had perished - on switch-on the 'Cathode to Anode Short' lamp glows slightly - is this normal - the set is not connected to anything so assume this should not come on?

Never plug in old gear without opening and checking first!

I don't think that should come on.

The Tester came with all the documentation including a cct diagram - all the 'short' warning neons are fed from the 170v supply via 100k resistors and go directly to the slide switches so either the resistor has gone low or the slide switches are dirty - I will clean them with contact cleaner and check the resistor - not sure sure what more can go wrong with those,

It's possible that the insulation in the slide switches has carbonised and is now conductive.
