I have recently purchased a murphy AD146 ( batwing )chassis an need to know if there is a manual for this as I need to now were the valves on the power supply go as they have been removed. At a later date I will look for a case for one but in the meantime I will put it in a new case as I needed a challenging project for the winter time.

Do you have a Murphy A146C console radio? I cannot find AD146 as a Murphy set. A146C sheet is available from the many sources and forums on the net.

If so the rectifier is or was a UU6 for which there are many substitutes. The UU6 was not a very good valve, it suffers from breaking down. The National Valve Museum on the net will give you a list of equivalents.
If you decide to use silicon diodes instead please use a series resistor to correct the HT voltage. The switch on surge with diodes is not advantageous to the rest of the set. The wax capacitor on the grid of the output valve will require changing PDQ.

There us indeed a UU6 The set is an A146 console ,I got a bit confused as I used to make some computer add on in my subbie days which used the AD series as a number. the other two valves are 2x 6p25 which I believe murphy used PE45 at a later date in this set and a few other of there sets. I do not have access to my Trader sheets on the BVWS discs as they have been boxed up from a recent move. And I know the trader sheets often had the layout off the chassis for the power section which I am after.

There is no trader sheet as far as I know for A146C but the Murphy sheet is very good. I could email the sheet to you if you wish.
You are lucky to have the 6P25 still there, the audiolads love to nick them.

that would be great I hope the valves are ok or I might have to replace them with Pen 45 I hope I do not have to change too much of the wiring. I will tray and send you my E-mail address in a PM.

That must be an old message you sent me the diagrams a few weeks ago. its a project I will start when we get a bit of bad weather as I have a few diy jobs and gardening jobs to do .I may come across an empty cabinet by then.
