Mrs H was moaning that the cleaner, a Dyson DC04, was not sucking correctly, the suction relief valve would trip at the drop of a hat. Took the cleaner apart expecting a pipe blockage but to no avail. So started looking at the known filter, one that sits under the dust bucket but that one was OK.
So, I decided to give the old battle axe (the cleaner, not the wife) a good service and that's when with the dust bucket out and looking for a way to clean the vortices out I found a small release clip that allows access to the inside of the vortices chambers and in there, lurking in the muck, was a circular sponge filter in a carrier.
In this case the filter was clagged solid with years of gunge, totally blocked up. Luckily the filter is washable and after a good beating to release the powdered dirt it was hand washed and allowed to dry. Full operation restored.
